NORFOLK, VA – Minister Rita Kay Hinton, formerly of Greensboro, peacefully transitioned from this life to reward on Saturday, December 31, 2022.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Power House of Deliverance Garden Cathedral, 1800 Willow Road, Greensboro, NC. The family visitation and viewing will begin at 2:30 p.m. Bishop Delores N. Duren will officiate and Bishop William L. Washington will deliver the words of comfort.
Public viewing will begin on Friday, January 13, 2022 from 12 until 5 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1024 Homeland Avenue, Greensboro, NC.
She was born in Guilford County on November 20, 1951 to Edward Shuler and Katherine Byrd.
Rita was educated in the Guilford County Public School System where she graduated from James B. Dudley High School class of 1970. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from John Wesley College in pastoral ministry.
Her early ministry training was as a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. Later in life as a member of East White Oak Baptist Church. Rita was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. She loved the Lord with all her heart, and she was a true witness of His love, grace and favor. She loved witnessing to others about the Lord. If you smiled at her, she would say: “Do you know Jesus, He is soon to come?” In her free time, she loved studying God’s Word, watching TCT Network (Christian Television) and putting crossword puzzles together.
Rita was a former employee of Caring Hands Home Health, Inc. in Greensboro, NC.
Survivors include husband, Raymond Hinton; daughter, Sharon Rose Cooper (Marvin); son, Tyrone Spruiell, Jr. (Sandra); step-daughter, Toni “Ijuaya” (George Lynn); sister, Brenda Shuler; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Lawrence Shuler, Leonard Shuler, Charles Shuler, Rosa Shuler and Kathy Shuler Mahatha.
