GREENSBORO – Michael Edwin Woods, 56, transitioned from labor to reward on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at his residence.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 at 1 p.m. at East White Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 1815 Water Street, Greensboro, NC. The viewing will begin at 12 p.m. and the family visitation at 12:30 p.m. Bishop B.W. Mittman, Sr., pastor will deliver the words of comfort.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro, NC.
Public viewing will begin on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 12 until 6 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1024 Homeland Avenue, Greensboro, NC.
Michael (aka PhatKat) was born May 25th, 1966 to the late Minister Hazel and Bessie Woods.
He graduated from Dudley B High School class of 1984. Upon completion of high school Michael worked various jobs including being a truck driver. He drove locally and long distance. His last employment was with the United States Postal Services where he retired after 10 years of service.
He confessed Christ at an early age where he later joined East White Oak Missionary Baptist Church and was an active member until his health declined. He was a member of the transportation and usher ministry for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by one sister Joyce Woods and a host of friends and family.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife Aretha Boyd-Woods, four daughters: DeAndre Hairston, Tylesha Woods, Mykesha (Kalen) Edwards and Kiana Boyd, six grandchildren: Xzayviah Hairston, Xzaryiah Hairston, Tristian Boyd, Zy’Keius Neal, Haevyn Lindsey and Zaccariah Moore, four siblings: Dr. Howard L. (Felecia) Woods Sr. of McLeansville, NC, Reginald (Geraldine) Woods of Greensboro, NC and Sylvia (Andrew) Faison of McLeansville, NC, three brother in-laws: Earnest Boyd Jr. of Enfield, NC , Michael Boyd of Plainfield, NJ, and Antonio Boyd of Roanoke Rapids, NC and three sister in-laws Vernetta Hicks of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Anita Woods and Pamela Harvey of Greensboro, NC and two aunts Thurla (James) Brandon and Mary Pulliam. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory is one godson Kadyn Dawkins and one goddaughter Kirstyn Dawkins. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
