GIBSONVILLE - Mrs. Mattie Lois Edwards Todd, 95, transitioned to a peaceful sleep on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the home of her daughter, Glenda Liggins Neal in Sedalia, North Carolina surrounded by her loved ones.
Mattie Lois was born in Lauren County, South Carolina on February 28, 1929, to the late Walter Woody and Erma Edwards Woody. She accepted Christ at a very early age and was baptized in the New Liberty Baptist Church in Lauren County, South Carolina. She married the late Alex Gray Todd and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina and to that union were born six children. She was a loving and dedicated Christian mother who taught her children the love of Jesus. After arriving in Greensboro, she was introduced to the Adventist faith and joined the East Market Street Seventh-day Adventist Church where she remained faithful until she declined in health.
Lois, as she was affectionately called, with her gentle and quiet spirit served throughout her walk with God as a Bible Worker, Sabbath School Teacher, Deaconess, Ingathering Coordinator and sang on the Gospel and Chancelor Choirs. She was a member of the Prayer Bank, Golden Age Society, Lady Auxiliary, and Widow’s Circle. She loved to cook and entertain, often inviting the pastors, church family and friends to enjoy a meal in her home. It was always said “if she liked you, she fed you”. She used fresh vegetables from her garden in the preparation of meals and she grew beautiful flowers to decorate her home.
Lois worked in the cafeteria at Charles Moore Elementary School of Greensboro, later went to work at Vicks Chemical Company on the assembly line until they closed. She then went to work as a private duty nurse, as a caretaker for the Cones and the Warwick families until she retired.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Bobby Joe Todd, and only sister Gussie Anderson (Andy). She leaves behind to continue her legacy, son Alex Todd Jr. (Carolyn), of Social Circle, GA, four daughters Mattie Todd Wilson, Glenda Liggins Neal (Michael), Gloria Todd, Sharon Todd Cornelius (Warren) all of Greensboro, North Carolina.
