Mrs. Mattie B. Allen (Pick) was born on May 20th, 1932, in Rockingham County North Carolina to the late Lester Monroe Bolden and the late Louvenia Marie Pinnix Bolden. She was 1 of 5 children – the late Lester M. Bolden Jr. (Junior), the late Marie Bolden Motley (Tink), Cecil Bolden, and Bobby Bolden.
Mattie married the Late Clark Gable Allen; they resided in Reidsville and raised their family of five children. Yes, she was a pillow of love and support in the community and kept all of us as youth straight and following a good Godly lifestyle.
Mattie was employed for most of her accomplished working life at Macfield and Allen-Bradley. She was last employed by her son, James Allen, in Mason, Ohio with Fischer Homes as a New Homes Sales Assistant. She worked there for seven years until her final retirement. In 2021, she desired to return to her roots in North Carolina, so she moved to Abbotswoods in Greensboro to experience independent living. Everyone loved Mattie. Her sweet southern personality and soft accent were most captivating. With this, her Fischer Homes clients could not say no. This position was a perfect fit for her caring, warm and loving personality.
She enjoyed, talking to & watching her grands, great grands compete (they had the most influence on her), shopping and returning things, walking, reading her bible, Red Lobster, family trips to Chicago, and the Steve Harvey Show. She also enjoyed keeping her lawn and garden maintained with vegetables for the community.
Throughout her life, Mattie was well-known and one of the most thoughtful, caring souls you could meet, yet she was feisty. Even during her diminishing health, she could be found reading the word and praying with our Father - daily. This renewed her strength to overcome life's adversities.
With the whole armor of God, she displayed immense vigor and strength from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mattie was ever so determined to overcome illnesses and after celebrating her 92nd birthday on May 20th, the Lord called her home on Sunday, June 2nd at 5:48 pm with her family by her side.
Mattie (Pick) is at Peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She put on her wings and flew away.
Mattie was preceded in death by her son, Irvin Allen.
She is survived by her children, Laquetta “Quett” Barbee (John), of Greensboro, NC, Rick Maynard, of High Point, NC, James Arnold Allen (Freda), of Mason, Ohio, and Phenecia Allen, of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Jaron Barbee, Jarius Barbee of Greensboro, NC, Reggie Ratliff, of Atlanta Georgia, Jermaine Allen, of Houston, Texas, Jamesha Allen, & Jasmine Allen, of Los Angelos, California, and Jermaine Maynard & Jasmine Maynard, of High Point, NC; great grandchildren, Josiah Barbee, Simone Barbee, Julian Barbee, Joy Barbee, Jayla Barbee, Destiny Allen, Maya Allen, Antonio Maynard, Kalia Maynard, Aniya Ratliff, & Amaree Ratliff.
