REIDSVILLE – Gladys Mae Watkins Fields, 91, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at Annie Penn Hospital.

Public viewing will begin on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1024 Homeland Avenue, Greensboro, NC.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021 at 3 p.m. from the Graves Chapel Baptist Church, 5373 Badgett Sisters Parkway, Yanceyville, NC. Pastor Kenneth E. Walker will deliver the words of comfort. The public viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the family arriving at 2:30 p.m. for the visitation. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

A native of Caswell County, she was born on February 19, 1930 to the late Granderson and Pensacola Bigelow Watkins.

She graduated from Caswell County Training School in 1949 and later attended Maco Beauty College in Greensboro where she graduated in 1953.

In 1957 she married the late Jimmie Lloyd Fields.

She was a faithful member of Graves Chapel Baptist Church where she was a church mother and was very active in the Missionary Circle, Sunday School, Sisters in Christ, senior and mass choirs, pastor's aide and kitchen committees, usher board and as church clerk.

For many years she worked as a licensed hairdresser at Apex Beauty Shop in Reidsville as well as operating her own cosmetology business in her home. In 1996, she retired from Burlington Industries Williamsburg Plant after 30 years of dedicated service.

She was a member of Pride of Locust Hill, Chapter No. 624 Order of the Eastern Star (PHA).

Mae, as she was affectionately called loved cooking, flowering, gardening, traveling and raising her chickens. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Thelma W. Ellis (Ernest), Lewis Watkins (Mattie), Robert Watkins (Thelma), James Watkins (Sadie), Leroy Watkins (Mary), Earl Watkins (Elizabeth), Ruth W. Brown (Alfred), Doris W. Brown (Harry) and Peggy W. Totten (George).

Survivors include son, Gerald Fields (Janna); 4 grandchildren, Gerald Harris, Trey Harris, Terence Fields and Raigan Fields; 4 great-grandchildren, Malaysia Harris, Trey Harris, Brenda Fields and Trayvian Fields; a host of nieces nephews, relatives and a plethora of friends.
