GREENSBORO – Elizabeth passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 3, 2023, beloved and surrounded by family.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Adele Nowak White and Kenneth Morgan White and grew up in Westwood, New Jersey with her three sisters and five brothers.
With a spirit for creativity and adventure, Elizabeth moved to New York City in 1970, where she was in several Broadway and off-Broadway stage shows, including the original run of Grease in 1972. It was also during this time that she met her husband, David English. Sharing a love of art and a sense of humor purely their own, they married in 1981.
After many adventures in New York, Connecticut, and Virginia, they settled in Greensboro, NC in 1988 to raise their children, John and Helen.
Elizabeth was a dedicated home maker, however this never got in the way of her independent spirit when it came to nurturing a creative drive. Her home was always filled with art, imagination, and love. Elizabeth didn’t see pillows and blankets; she saw a castle to build in the living room. She didn’t just see sticks and trees in the park; she saw swords and dragons to be conquered with John and Helen.
She led a life unafraid to be exactly who she wanted to be, and she cherished those around her for exactly who they were. Elizabeth cared for everyone openly and freely. The only thing that mattered more to her than putting a smile on someone’s face was knowing she had a hand in picking someone up when they were down.
Elizabeth also cared deeply for animals great and small. Her horse and best friend Sonder brought her the greatest joy. Whether it was riding in the fields of her favorite trail or simply brushing her horse’s mane, she was always at her happiest with animals.
Elizabeth is survived by her husband David English; her children John English and Helen English; daughter-in-law Claire Lay; one sister, Ruth Easterling; five brothers, Kenneth White, Chris White, Andrew White, Frank White, and Adam White; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Adele Nowak White, father Kenneth Morgan White, and two sisters, Joan Gerlacher and Patricia White.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to express their condolences consider making a donation to the SPCA of the Triad in Elizabeth’s honor.
