GREENSBORO – Altheria Chavis Twiggs, 64, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital.

She was born in Guilford County, NC on December 11, 1956 to June Spencer and Hortense Chavis. 

She was educated in the local public schools and graduated from Walter Hines Page High School class of 1975.  She later attended GTCC and North Carolina A&T State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.

Altheria loved kids and was a Daycare Director.  She formerly taught children’s church at New Jerusalem Cathedral.  In her spare time, she enjoyed watching cooking shows.

She was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Lorenzo Chavis in 1994.

Survivors include children, Denise Jones (Dion), Tawayn Chavis and Antoine Chavis; 5 grandchildren, Shanice Chavis, Shyquan Chavis, Rico Smith, Jr., Zamond Shuler and John Tipps, Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren, Iyaah Legrand and Terrance Robinson, Jr.; a host of relatives and friends.

A public viewing will begin on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1024 Homeland Avenue, Greensboro, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 1105 Willow Road, Greensboro, NC.  The family visitation and viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m.  Reverend Dr. Cardes H. Brown, Jr. will deliver the words of comfort.

Interment with horse and carriage will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Dr., Greensboro, NC.
