GREENSBORO – Donna Grant Gatena, 57, passed away September 4, 2019 at Moses Cone Hospital.

She was born in Guilford County on February 1, 1962 to Kathryn Ham and James Ham. 

Donna graduated from Hampton High School, class of 1980 and further her education in Charleston, SC receiving her Associates Degree in Business Management.

She was very active in the Boy Scouts and served as a leader.  She was also a dedicated volunteer in her church and community.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Ham; stepmother, Sylvia Ham; and brother Jason Ham.

Survivors include children, Brian Gatena and Brandon Gatena; mother, Kathryn Wooldridge (Frank); sisters, Anita Marlis Napier (Roger), Jerri Wynn (Sean), Conni Wooldridge; brother, James Ham Jr. (Tracey); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home & Cremations, 1024 Homeland Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.  

The family is requesting attendees dress in casual attire.

Donna was a joy to be around. She enjoyed reading the Bible and expressed faith in the promises of the creator. My condolences to the family for your loss.

To Tracy, Brian and Brandon, I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Donna from attending the Kingdom Hall. She was so sweet and had a nice soft voice. It was a pleasure to see her enjoy her studies of the Bible. She will be missed. I pray God will give you all strength during this time.
