GREENSBORO – Vernelle Maxine Parks, 76, passed away June 9, 2019 at Beacon Place.

She was born on February 25, 1943 in Forsyth County to the late James Mock and Joan Self Mock.

Educated in the local public schools, she graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem and attended college where she received a bachelor’s degree.

Vernelle loved the beach, watching the HGTV channel and spending time with family.

She was formerly employed by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Parks; brother, James Mock; sisters, Betty Cooper and Effie Riddick; brothers-in-law, Gay Riddick and Fred Thomas.

Survivors include daughter, Denita Mackey (Byron); sisters, Mary Arnold (James) and Martha Thomas; grandchildren, Crystal Parkman, Sabrina Banks (Everett), Darianna Gotimer, DeLania Gotimer and Chenevie Singletary (Edward); 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Veronica Mock; brother-in-law, John Cooper; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at First Waughtown Baptist Church, 838 Moravia Street, Winston-Salem, NC.
